Local commitments, transnational solidarity: African Women Activists' Deep Commitments in Doing Women, Peace, and Security Work

March 30, 2021

The Women, Peace, and Security Program published a report on transnational solidarity across five African women’s organizations, highlighting the deep commitments in grassroots women’s peace work across a range of countries and contexts.

The focus of this piece is on transnational solidarity across five African women’s organizations—members of the 2020 Peace and Social Change Fellowship cohort—highlighting the deep commitments in grassroots women's peace work across a range of countries and contexts.

These commitments include:
• The importance of trust, care and consent;
• The ability to ‘feel the problem’ in a way that transcends the fixed;
• The necessity of a holistic approach of meaningfully involving community;
• The formation of networks of solidarity that leverage differences in faith;
• And the recognition that working in synergy with stakeholders is needed to address deep-rooted issues like access and inequity

Local commitments, transnational solidarity is available in English here.

Cette pièce souligne les engagements profonds dans le travail des femmes pour la paix, à travers 5 organisations africaines, qui sont membres de la bourse Peace and Social Change de 2020.

Ces engagements comprennent
• L’importance de la confiance, le soin et le consentement ;
• La capacité de « ressentir le problème » d’une manière qui transcende le fixe ;
• La nécessité d’une approche holistique qui implique la participation significative de la communauté ;
• La création des réseaux de solidarité à travers les différences de foi ;
• Et la reconnaissance du fait que travailler en synergie avec les parties prenantes est nécessaire pour résoudre les problèmes profondément enracinés tels que l’accès et l’iniquité

Engagements locaux, solidarité transnationale est disponible en français ici.
