Jessica Paek is pursuing her PhD in Management & Organizations at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. In her research, Jessica studies the motivational underpinnings of prosocial behaviors in organizations. At 2021 IACM, she presented on experimental and field studies that test if leaders who are motivated to maintain social rank by using intimidation and coercion offer a type of help where they give employees the full solution to a problem, whereas leaders who are motivated to gain respect by sharing their expertise and knowledge offer a different type of help where they give employees the tools to solve a problem.

Yufei Zhong, Georgia Institute of Technology

Yufei Zhong is pursuing her PhD in Organizational Behavior at the Scheller College of Business, Georgia Institute of Technology. In her research, Yufei studies how power influences individual behaviors and interpersonal dynamics. At IACM 2021, she presented her research on how low-power people compete at work. With this work, she advanced the idea that low-power people are no less competitive than their high-power counterparts, but they compete in ways that are less visible to others. She enjoyed presenting this work at the conference in front of researchers who share her enthusiasm for power and conflict management. Due to the intimate nature of the conference, she was able to meet and have insightful conversations with her cohort as well as experts in the field.
